Even though the location is close to perfect for a shot stay in Hing Kong. The hotel is a disappointment. I booked an The Executive Club Room, expect to be disappointed! Let me translate their description on their site:"Guests can enjoy the view with the landing of planes from the bedroom window" - Might be true, at least for less than half of the guests on the floor. As most of the rooms are pointing towards the inner yard, and away from the airport."Executive Club Lounge" - a shinning bright fluorescent illuminated cafeteria, with a poor selection on food and drinks. It is an ok place to sit and work and grab a bite during the day though, but expect no more than an average airport lounge."Free broadband Internet access" - One device only, and expect to be kicked of every 20-30min for a re-login. Speed 1-10mps."Personalised service from our attentive staff" - A grumpy lady in the reception, I didn't experience much other communication, apart from some awkward moments, when being yelled at in the "deluxe" cafeteria, because it doesn't say anywhere that they need your information when entering the room."Welcome fruit" - An orange or an apple as I could saw it. It wasn't present on my room upon arrival though and didn't receive any."Deluxe Continental breakfast" - Regular mid-range hotel breakfast."Complimentary minibar items" - 2 Beers, 1 Coke, 1 diet Coke, 1 7up, 1 diet 7up, 3 water (daily).I am not a sad old man, who complains a lot, actually I never do. And I arrived with a lot of positive energy and excitement to visit the hotel. And greeted everybody at the hotel with a smile. This is just a translation of their descriptions, it might show my disappointment also though.Oh, and they promised me a reduced total rate upon arrival, because I had a complementary late check out at the last day. My flight was at 1am, and was allowed to check out at 6pm, which was good enough for me. And I was happy not to have to pay for my last day. But when checking out I had to pay the full amount anyways?

This hotel struggles to merit a three-star rating. It has only one thing to recommend it: its location, which is integral with the passenger terminal. Arrivals/departures are a 2-3 minute walk in air-conditioned comfort. Regal obviously know this and appear to believe it means they don’t have to try.
Like the airport itself, the hotel is now twenty years old. Both the property and the management are in serious need of refurbishment.
This was not my first stay at the hotel. I stayed there before, in September. We complained last time, but nothing has changed. The only reason we stayed there again was that we arrived in HK late at night (after a long flight) and departed before breakfast time and were willing to endure another stay for the convenience.
There was a long, slow-moving queue at the check-in desk. The check-in clerk made no attempt to engage with us, didn’t look at us, didn’t smile, didn’t address us by name.
We got to our room to find the toilet cistern “running†noisily. We managed to stop it, but it was always slow and noisy filling. Call us stupid, but the only way we could get all the lights to go out so that we could sleep was to remove the key card from the holder by the door to switch the power off. There was a switch next to it which did nothing as far as we could tell. I guess it was broken.
It was a cold day, but there was no heating in the room. No bathrobes either. The bed was very comfortable (but we were as tired as the room!).
We had dinner in the China Coast Bar & Grill. What a gloomy place! My gin and tonic came drowned in tonic (I would have preferred to add the tonic myself to taste). The food was actually satisfactory and so was the service; but the prices were pure rip-off. For breakfast, we had room service American breakfasts, which took more than 45 minutes to arrive. They cost about HKD230 each, but reminded me of an economy-class in-flight meal. The hotel insists that guests pay cash on delivery for room service and the mini bar was completely empty apart from a couple of small bottles of water, which I guess speaks volumes about the hotel’s clientele.
I don’t know whether the hotel is profitable or not, but it felt like they offer a poor product for high prices simply because they can.
Only stay at this hotel if, like us, you felt you had to.

I was stuck staying here due to missing a connecting flight (thanks Cathay Pacific for nothing!). Check in was a breeze at midnight. The hotel is walking distance from the airport, enjoying its own private access tunnel.
My room was dated! Like 1980's dated. And I'm not sure if the smell is 2 decade old cigarette smell that never quite came out, or the upholstery breaking down from too many applications of Fabreeze. No international plugs (odd for an airport hotel), but they did have usb plug for charging, hidden away at the corner of the desk. The twin beds in my room were firm, like throw a 1inch mattress over a wooden board firm. And 1 pillow for bed. Definitely not going for a luxurious pampered experience here.
Breakfast was interesting. The greeter took my room info and motions me into the room (no attempts at offering anything that looks like customer service). The buffet breakfast selection was a standout! Food was very good! But like many HK style restaurants, you're on your own. Seat yourself, get your own coffee, and yes, you'll be sharing a table with strangers.

This time around we decided - for practical purposes - to stay in a hotel close to the airport. It was a good decision. The Regal Airport Hotel is 3 minutes' walk to the check in counters, and the Airport Express - the station is also 3 minutes' walk from the hotel - makes it possible to get to the Centre of Hong Kong in 24 minutes. It is a well managed hotel and offers everything a traveller requires.
